Mad, Sad and Bad with Paloma Faith

Mad, Sad and Bad with Paloma Faith

Paloma Faith has had plenty of moments in her life when she's felt mad, sad or bad - or been told that's what she's being. But do these words mean the same for everyone? What does it mean if someone says you're mad: that you're angry? Unstable? Insane? Or perhaps just different... Could those words be liberating, therapeutic or even transformational? To find out more, Paloma invites an array of actors, comedians, musicians and thinkers into her home to reflect on times where they've felt mad, sad, bad - and even glad - what they've understood and learnt from these experiences too. This podcast takes us into Paloma's world, with friends and family popping in occasionally - come for the chaos; stay for the conversation! New Episodes every Tuesday Hosted on Acast. Afua Hirsch: My Afro Was “Too Big” For TV News

Afua Hirsch is an activist, writer, broadcaster, and an incredible storyteller who exudes inspiration. Her ability to express herself with diplomacy while never compromising on her convictions is seriously impressive, so I was thrilled to invite her round for a chat! In this conversation, Afua opens up about making sense of her dual-heritage identity, and how challenging western beauty standards has helped her to reconnect with her own body, beauty ideals, and culture. Afua also discusses her experiences as a TV news reporter; from being told her afro was too big for TV, to hearing that racism doesn’t exist from an all-white panel, and why she’ll never seek approval from industry gatekeepers. Through her activism and writing, Afua has helped countless people to understand and articulate the black-British experience. She is a true inspiration and a force to be reckoned with! #AFUAHIRSCH #PALOMAFAITH #MADSADBAD — Find us on: Instagram / TikTok / YouTube — Credits: Producer: Jemima Rathbone Assistant Producer: Magda Cassidy Edit Producer: Pippa Brown Editor: Shane O'Byrne Video: Jake Ji Grisha Nikolsky Video Editor: Josh Bennett Original music: BUTCH PIXY Social Media: Laura Coughlan Marketing: Eleanore Bamber Exec Producer: Jemima Rathbone Exec Producers for Idle Industries: Dave Granger Will Macdonald Senior Exec Producer: Holly Newson Hosted on Acast. Rupert Everett: I Treated People Badly Because I Felt Insecure

Rupert Everett: I Treated People Badly Because I Felt Insecure

Rupert Everett has had an expansive career, from Prince Charming in Shrek, to Oscar Wilde in The Happy Prince; more recently the fabulous Giorgio in Emily in Paris, and less recently, my old Headmistress at St Trinian’s. In this conversation, Rupert reminisces about his early years, from his melancholic birth, to his magical experiences of the gay London party scene in the 1970s. Rupert also shares how his experience of growing up in a Catholic school ignited a naughty streak which now sees him questioning some of his behaviour as a younger man. Rupert has been a dear friend of mine for many years so it was a real pleasure to have him over - as expected with him, there are no holds barred - we chatted about religion, sexuality, narcissism, national identity and everything in between - plus plenty of cackling laughter too! #RUPERTEVERETT #PALOMAFAITH #MADSADBAD — Find us on: Instagram / TikTok / YouTube — Credits: Producer: Jemima Rathbone Assistant Producer: Magda Cassidy Edit Producer: Pippa Brown Editor: Shane O'Byrne Video: Jake Ji Grisha Nikolsky Video Editor: Josh Bennett Original music: BUTCH PIXY Social Media: Laura Coughlan Marketing: Eleanore Bamber Exec Producer: Jemima Rathbone Exec Producers for Idle Industries: Dave Granger Will Macdonald Senior Exec Producer: Holly Newson Hosted on Acast. Eve: I Thought I Was Cursed

Eve: I Thought I Was Cursed

Not only is Eve a multi-talented actress, singer, rapper and songwriter, she’s also a trailblazing entrepreneur and a gorgeous Mum. I’ve been a fan of Eve since the Ruff Ryders days, and even begged my Mum to let me get Eve’s iconic paw-print tattoo, so it was a bit of a pinch me moment having her in my home... In this conversation, Eve shares childhood memories of being a class-clown who thrived off attention and laughter, but there was a period of darkness in her life where she struggled with the music industry and her relationship with alcohol. Eve opens up about the accident which forced her to turn her life around and take back the power in her career. Eve also talks about fertility and motherhood; from the ectopic pregnancy which she kept secret for years and her experiences of IVF, to the love she feels for her son and step-kids. I loved chatting with this amazing woman, not only is she beautiful inside and out, but she’s also an absolute icon and inspiration. #EVE #PALOMAFAITH #MADSADBAD — Find us on: Instagram / TikTok / YouTube — Credits: Producer: Jemima Rathbone Assistant Producer: Magda Cassidy Edit Producer: Pippa Brown Editor: Shane O'Byrne Video: Jake Ji Grisha Nikolsky Video Editor: Josh Bennett Original music: BUTCH PIXY Social Media: Laura Coughlan Marketing: Eleanore Bamber Exec Producer: Jemima Rathbone Exec Producers for Idle Industries: Dave Granger Will Macdonald Senior Exec Producer: Holly Newson Hosted on Acast. Paapa Essiedu: Why Grief Shouldn’t Be Feared

Paapa Essiedu: Why Grief Shouldn’t Be Feared

Paapa Essiedu is not only an incredible actor, lighting up our screens and London’s stages, he’s also a great friend and probably the most emotionally intelligent man I know. In this conversation, Paapa opens up about losing both his parents by the age of 20, and what it taught him about love, grief, and how sadness creates the imperfections of our character which allow us to be authentic and unique individuals. We also discuss spirituality, Christian guilt, and how growing up going to church shaped Paapa’s ideas of what it means to be a good person. Paapa also shares his experiences of racial profiling as an actor, and how he’s learned to channel this anger into action. I deeply admire Paapa and his ability to express himself calmly and eloquently in the face of injustice – I really loved this thought-provoking and inspiring chat and hope you do too! #PAAPAESSIEDU #PALOMAFAITH #MADSADBAD — Find us on: Instagram / TikTok / YouTube — Credits: Producer: Jemima Rathbone Assistant Producer: Magda Cassidy Edit Producer: Pippa Brown Editor: Shane O'Byrne Video: Jake Ji Grisha Nikolsky Video Editor: Josh Bennett Original music: BUTCH PIXY Social Media: Laura Coughlan Marketing: Eleanore Bamber Exec Producer: Jemima Rathbone Exec Producers for Idle Industries: Dave Granger Will Macdonald Senior Exec Producer: Holly Newson Hosted on Acast. Elizabeth Day: How I Found Peace With Never Becoming a Mum

Elizabeth Day: How I Found Peace With Never Becoming a Mum

TW: This episode contains discussion of assault Elizabeth Day is the person who first introduced me to podcasts, and if it weren’t for her this podcast probably wouldn’t exist, so it was an absolute dream to invite her round to mine for a chat! In this conversation, we discuss the sexist double standards that make Elizabeth mad, and I was thrilled to discover that beneath Elizabeth’s effortlessly put-together exterior is a person who indulges in road rage and isn't against having a cry on the tube. She also tells a never before heard story about the final piece of the puzzle that helped her accept not become a mother and how that, in turn, allowed her to find new ways to nurture and create in her life. Elizabeth also shares some hilarious dating stories, which you can hear more of in her new podcast How to Date, where she shares more of her trademark big-sister wisdom and dating advice! Elizabeth is so generous and thoughtful, spending time with her was an absolute treat. #ELIZABETHDAY #PALOMAFAITH #MADSADBAD — Find us on: Instagram / TikTok / YouTube — Credits: Producer: Jemima Rathbone Assistant Producer: Magda Cassidy Edit Producer: Pippa Brown Editor: Shane O'Byrne Video: Jake Ji Grisha Nikolsky Video Editor: Josh Bennett Original music: BUTCH PIXY Social Media: Laura Coughlan Marketing: Eleanore Bamber Exec Producer: Jemima Rathbone Exec Producers for Idle Industries: Dave Granger Will Macdonald Senior Exec Producer: Holly Newson Hosted on Acast. James O’Brien: The Therapy Session That Changed My Life

James O’Brien: The Therapy Session That Changed My Life

From speaking to opinionated callers on his radio show, to taking down Nigel Farage live on air, James O’Brien has dealt with his fair share of mad, sad and bad. Me and my Mum are also huge fans of his, so I was super excited to invite him over for a chat. In this episode, we delve deep into James’ early life; from being born to a young single mother and his subsequent adoption, to his experiences of corporal punishment at Catholic school. We discuss how these early experiences shaped him, and how therapy helped him to address some of the coping mechanisms and prejudices he had carried through childhood. He is open, vulnerable, deeply honest, and is the epitome positive masculinity. We also discuss being our therapists’ favourite clients, and James takes the liberty of dishing out some parenting advice to me! This conversation was political, hilarious, and deeply refreshing! #JAMESO'BRIEN #PALOMAFAITH #MADSADBAD — Find us on: Instagram / TikTok / YouTube — Credits: Producer: Jemima Rathbone Assistant Producer: Magda Cassidy Edit Producer: Pippa Brown Editor: Shane O'Byrne Video: Jake Ji Grisha Nikolsky Video Editor: Joel Sommazzi Josh Bennett Original music: BUTCH PIXY Social Media: Laura Coughlan Marketing: Eleanore Bamber Exec Producer: Jemima Rathbone Exec Producers for Idle Industries: Dave Granger Will Macdonald Senior Exec Producer: Holly Newson Hosted on Acast. Jameela Jamil: I Love Being Invisible To Men

Jameela Jamil: I Love Being Invisible To Men

Whether it’s calling out ridiculous (and frankly dangerous) beauty standards or holding people to account on social media, Jameela Jamil is a force to be reckoned with. She’s also an old friend who I could chat to forever, so of course she had to come join me on the pod! From the lessons she’s learnt from one of the saddest years of her life, to the madness of what we’re sold as acceptable social constructs - this conversation was everything I hoped it would be. Jameela even shares some regrets around some of the more bad things she’s said online... I always come away from spending time with Jameela feeling energised and enlightened - a real treat to have her over! Mel B: Finding Love Again After Escaping Abuse

Mel B: Finding Love Again After Escaping Abuse

Mel B is an icon - she was always my favourite Spice Girl because I felt similar to her in some ways, so I was over the moon to invite her over to my house to chat... Mel's energy and zest for life exudes off her but there was a time in her life, in an abusive relationship, where she was a shadow of her former strong and powerful self. However, beyond that sadness, we talk about the madness of Spice Girls euphoria and how she is an absolute bad-ass - the reason I loved her so much in the first place. Spending time with Mel was everything I hoped it would be - chaotic, hilarious and moving. Alan Carr: I Use Humour As A Shield

Alan Carr: I Use Humour As A Shield

Alan Carr has been a great friend of mine for years so I was delighted when he said he'd be my first ever guest on Mad, Sad and Bad! Anyone who's ever seen or met Alan will know he has a magnetic presence and is a true entertainer. He's one of the funniest people I know, but I was excited to speak to him and go beyond the funny man and delve into a more serious side of Alan... We speak about the grief of losing a pet and exchange some (quite mad) stories of dating on the other side of divorce. He also shares the worst thing he's ever done, and I don't mind telling you, my jaw dropped... And as much as we get a little serious at times, this was still a very funny conversation! — Find us on: Instagram / TikTok / YouTube — Credits: Producer: Jemima Rathbone Assistant Producer: Magda Cassidy Edit Producer: Pippa Brown Editor: Shane O'Byrne Video: Jake Ji Grisha Nikolsky Video Editor: Joel Sommazzi Original music: BUTCH PIXY Social Media: Laura Coughlan Marketing: Eleanore Bamber Exec Producer: Jemima Rathbone Exec Producers for Idle Industries: Dave Granger Will Macdonald Senior Exec Producer: Holly Newson Hosted on Acast.
