EP 56 with Dr. Kara Powell: Who is The Next Generation & How to Love Them Well

In this episode, Christine Caine welcomes Dr. Kara Powell, Executive Director of the Fuller Youth Institute. Kara believes faith-filled teenagers and young adults can change our world, but they need parents and mentors to intentionally invest in their lives. This episode will equip you to better understand today’s youth, provide you with practical ideas for discipleship, and ignite a passion within you for a future-focused church. SHOW NOTES: Intentional Investments Kara asks: “Can we as adults be more intentional in how we reach out to the young people God's already put in our paths?” She challenges Christian adults to open their hearts and lives to the young people around them. They are hungry for discipleship! Invest Like Jesus Teenagers are looking for identity, belonging, and purpose, and they have many sources to provide answers. Kara firmly believes Jesus is the best answer. She challenges us to accompany young people, pointing them to Jesus, the ultimate source of our identity, belonging, and purpose. Jesus himself invited young men and women into his life, teaching them how to follow God. We are wise to do the same! Future Focused Church Kara’s has a new book releasing this spring that provides useful information to help churches make changes for future generations. If your church feels stuck in guiding young people, this book will provide the insights needed to help you focus on four things: 1. Who you are as a church: what are your strengths and how do you make sure people are engaged? 2. Understanding the church's current reality by listening to all generations, especially young people. 3. Focus on the future. What is God’s vision for the church? 4. How do you take who you are and move from “here” to “there”? Follow Kara @kpowellfyi and visit her website www.karapowell.com for all her latest books and resources. EP 55 with Rhiannon DuBois: How to Cope in Redemptive Ways

EP 55 with Rhiannon DuBois: How to Cope in Redemptive Ways

In this episode, Christine Caine welcomes clinical psychologist, Dr. Rhiannon DuBois, who oversees the global aftercare program for A21. Dr. Rhiannon reflects on her experience with divorce and brings practical wisdom for grieving in redemptive ways. This episode will equip you with three coping practices when dealing with trauma. SHOW NOTES: Three Coping Practices 1. Emotion-focused coping involves acknowledging and feeling the emotions surrounding your situation and then processing those emotions through journaling, praying, or talking to a trusted friend or counselor. 2. Solution or problem-focused coping looks at what you must do to move forward and function. 3. Lastly, avoidant coping avoids the pain by denying the issue and, in extreme cases, turning to drugs or alcohol to numb the pain. It can even be Netflix binging, retail therapy, or anything that distracts you from dealing with the feelings associated with the trauma. Avoid Avoidance Research tells us that emotion and problem-focused coping are the healthiest ways to deal with grief. Avoidance might work for a while but eventually comes out in anger or aggression. Like a volcano, your feelings will erupt in unhealthy ways. Giving yourself structured time to practice emotion-focused coping will help you process your feelings within a set time so you can deal with the emotions rather than avoid them. Problem-focused coping helps maintain purpose when life can feel hopeless. Accepting the Unacceptable Life can be excruciatingly hard, but Rhiannon encourages us that rather than ruminating on what we can’t change and remaining stuck in suffering, we can accept that we don’t understand. There is freedom in accepting the situation and laying it down in the hands of our Heavenly Father who sees the whole picture and will lovingly guide us through the pain. EP 54 with Jenn Brown: Heart-Driven Leadership and Accountability That Works

EP 54 with Jenn Brown: Heart-Driven Leadership and Accountability That Works

In this episode, Christine Caine welcomes Jenn Brown, Vice President of Collaborative Partnerships at OneHope. Jenn encourages women to embrace that you cannot separate your gender from your leadership – it’s ok to bring all of yourself into your participation in the mission of God. This episode will encourage you to lead from the heart of who God created you to be and show up well in your strengths. SHOW NOTES: Heart-led Leadership Jenn emphasizes the value of female leadership due to their natural bend toward connectivity. Women also, at their best, often lead from their heart, drawing people together and cultivating unity in a world bent toward isolation. Heart leadership is motivated by empathy, courage, vulnerability, and connectivity, which is innate for women. The Condition of Our Hearts Christine stresses that women are in no way better, less sinful, or more capable than men. Sin is genderless. Both men and women must lead from a healthy heart that is redeemed by the Lord. Christian leadership is NEVER a competition, rather we should be working together. Transparency and Accountability Those leading from the heart are naturally honest and authentic in their communications with others. Additionally, Christine and Jenn remind us that leaders need to have discernment about what to share publicly versus privately. It’s wise to discern what conversations are meant to be had in close relationships, and what is meant to be shared with wider circles. Follow Jenn @Jmeganbrown on Instagram. EP 53 with Arianna Molloy: Your Calling Isn’t Bigger Than The One Who Called You

EP 53 with Arianna Molloy: Your Calling Isn’t Bigger Than The One Who Called You

In this episode, Christine Caine welcomes college professor, author, and passionate leader, Dr. Arianna Molloy. Dr. Arianna warns us not to confuse the importance of our calling with the One who called us in the first place, which often leads to a loss of self and exhaustion. Today’s conversation will equip you with the tools to avoid burnout, walk in humility, and flourish in your calling with a right perspective of God. SHOW NOTES: Healthy Calling In her book, Healthy Calling, Arianna defines calling as, “a meaningful passion, and something you’re skilled to do that makes a positive impact on others.” She says your calling is an opportunity to take Jesus with you into your sphere of influence. Avoiding Burnout As Christians, every calling necessitates loving God and loving others through the skill sets God provides. Knowing and living out our God-given purpose keeps us motivated, fulfilled, and satisfied in our work. Confusing our calling with our Caller, and allowing our occupation to become our identity, often leads to burnout. Maintaining Humility 1. Know your strengths and weaknesses. And don’t get distracted by either one. 2. Be a lifelong learner. 3. Be able to step away for a moment to sabbath, remaining dependent upon the Lord for meaning and purpose. EP 52 with Priscilla Shirer: How to Give God Your All, Without Holding Back

EP 52 with Priscilla Shirer: How to Give God Your All, Without Holding Back

In this episode, Christine Caine and Priscilla Shirer offer a wealth of wisdom about surrendering our lives fully to the plan and purposes of God, no matter the call or the cost. We often find ourselves wondering if we are hearing from God correctly, if we are overthinking, and what might happen if we “get it wrong.” In today’s conversation, Christine and Priscilla bring practical methods for checking-in with God and moving forward with confidence. SHOW NOTES: Daily Surrender Jesus says, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Priscilla remarks that to take up our cross “means something has to die. We have to be willing to loosen our grip on the things that we hold dear for the sake of making sure that nothing and no one is in first place over him.” An Anchored Soul Christine asks how we can know if something has taken first place in our lives. Priscilla gives us two practical indicators: 1. Our time. If we aren’t spending time with the Lord it’s because he’s not a priority, not because we don’t have time. 2. Our treasures. Are we giving to the Lord and his work? 3. Our significance. What have I tied myself to and how can I ask the Lord to help me recalibrate? A Mother’s Prayer For mothers, surrendering their children can be hard. Priscilla reminds us that we don’t have control over older children, but we can pray the Holy Spirit speaks to them, works in them, protects them, and transforms their hearts in ways only God can. Prayer calls down heaven’s power onto our earthly circumstances, reaping a mighty harvest from the petitions sown. Follow Priscilla @PriscillaShirer and check out her new movie, The Forge. EP 51 Q with Christine Caine: Information, Knowledge, and Wisdom: There’s a Big Difference

EP 51 Q with Christine Caine: Information, Knowledge, and Wisdom: There’s a Big Difference

Listen in as Christine Caine discusses the difference between information, knowledge, and wisdom. She reminds us that the “fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7) and challenges us to ask God for the wisdom (James 1:5) needed to live a godly life. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the amount of information at our fingertips and have a hunger to hear from God, listen in and find tips and encouragement to pursue Jesus today. SHOW NOTES: Wisdom Deficiency Our world is saturated with information, necessitating the priority of seeking God’s wisdom above all else–because wisdom provides the insight needed to apply knowledge properly. Heart of Wisdom Given the opportunity to ask God for anything, Solomon petitioned for a “discerning heart to govern” Israel (1 Kings 3:9). God answered his request because wise actions flow from a wise heart (Proverbs 4:23). Ask for Wisdom How many times do we go to Google before we go to God? We have questions or need insight, and instead of seeking the Lord, we search the internet. We are wise to remember that supernatural knowledge supersedes earthly insight—but we have to ask God (James 1:5)! EP 50 Q with Christine Caine: Does Having Friends Matter? Spoiler Alert: Yes.

When work, family, ministry, and extracurriculars start to pack your schedule, it’s easy to let friendships fade. In this episode, Christine Caine gets open and honest about the importance of maintaining friendships in every season, no matter how demanding schedules become. She will encourage you to make time for friends, be a good friend, and know when to let go of unhealthy relationships. You don’t want to miss this Q ! SHOW NOTES: Be Friendly Scripture teaches that if we want friends we must be friendly (Proverbs 18:24). Nick and Christine live by this verse as friendly, godly people who exemplify the importance of prioritizing friendship in every season of life. Intentionally Invest in Others Just like we can’t talk to the Lord once a week and have a healthy, vibrant spiritual life—talking to friends at our convenience won’t cultivate strong relationships. Christ-centered love is sacrificial, selflessly valuing others above yourself (Philippians 2:3). Cultivate a Close Circle Paul tells us to carry each other’s burdens (Galatians 6:2) because sometimes life is too much to shoulder alone. Christine encourages us to have a close circle of trustworthy, like-minded friends with whom we can confide. EP 49 Q with Christine Caine: How to Make Prayer Your First Response

EP 49 Q with Christine Caine: How to Make Prayer Your First Response

Today, on the podcast, we kick off a mini-series of Q with Christine Caine, hosted by Equip & Empower team member, Mattie Meese. In this episode, Christine Caine shares how prayer is the foundation of her life and ministry. Listen in to find encouragement today if you’ve ever wrestled with how to pray or struggled with unanswered prayers. SHOW NOTES: First Response For Christine and Nick, prayer has become a first response when navigating challenging situations in life, but it’s also their first response when things are going well. Prayer is not regulated only for times of crisis but also for times of praise. “Open Mouth. Pray” A Christian speaker from South Korea forever impacted Christine when she challenged an audience to not overcomplicate prayer. She said you simply need to open your mouth, then pray. Dependency Upon God Christine shares that she cannot provide the breakthroughs needed in her life and ministry. However, prayer invites God’s divine activity into our lives, expressing our utter dependence upon the Lord and our need for his intervention.
